
Summary of Special Board Meeting
The Elliott County Board of Education met on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 to consider how to safely resume in-person instruction. After discussing the concerns expressed by various stakeholders, the Board voted to continue virtual instruction at least until school employees have received their second COVID vaccine, which should be around February 18th. The Board also instructed principals and teachers to work next week to schedule more structured, face-to-face, small group instruction beginning the week of February 8. Staff from each school will be reaching out to families to make arrangements for students to come in. Social distancing and masks will be strictly enforced during all interactions.

Any girl in grades 7-12 at Elliott County Middle or High School interested in trying out for High School softball. First official day for practice will be Monday February 22 . Elliott County students will resume virtual instruction on Monday, January 4, 2021. Return to in person instruction will be dependent upon the color-coded COVID incidence rate map. A call will go out to notify families on the Friday prior to in person return. We hope you each have a safe and happy new year!

Due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in our community, there will be no in person classes during the week of November 16-20. Any student who is struggling with virtual assignments should call their school so that teachers can help them get caught up. We encourage everyone to follow all public health guidelines, including limiting travel, practicing social distancing, and wearing masks when in public.

After consulting public health officials, we have decided to cancel all in-person student activities until further notice. Food pick up on Wednesdays will continue. If you wish to sign up for this service, please call the Board of Education office.

Due to the continued increase in the number of COVID19 cases in Elliott and surrounding counties, the return to in- person instruction scheduled for Monday, November 9th has been postponed. A new date will be publicized as soon as it is deemed safe for students to return to school. The safety of our school community is our highest priority.

After discussions with the Department of Public Health, return to in person instruction has been rescheduled for November 9th. One group will come to school on Mondays and Tuesdays; the other group will come to school on Thursdays and Fridays. In order to ride a bus to school, guardians must sign a certification form. This form is available at your child's school, as well as on the district web page. You may call your child's school beginning Monday, October 26th to find out if your child is in group A or group B and to request a bus form. All bus forms must be returned by November 4th.

Meal delivery resumes tomorrow on a Monday and Wednesday schedule. Next week the meal service changes to pickup only on Wednesdays from 11:30 to 1:30.

Due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in our community, the food delivery service is postponed. It will resume when the department of public health map changes Elliott County’s color from “red” to a less severe level. The map is updated daily by 5 pm.

Due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the community, Elliott County Schools is cancelling all in-person activities. We will be conducting virtual learning ONLY until the county’s status shifts from “red.” There will be no food delivery tomorrow, October 12th, no small group instruction, and no sports activities. Staff will work from home. The food delivery program is tentatively rescheduled for Wednesday and Friday for this week. Please continue to take safety precautions as recommended by the Department of Public Health.

State public health regulations have been updated. COVID-19 is included as a communicable disease that must be reported. If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please immediately report it to your child's school so that we can take reasonable steps to reduce the risk of spreading the disease to others.

All students enrolled in Elliott County schools are eligible for the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer program, which provides households with funds to spend on food at home for students. If your household currently receives SNAP benefits; if the student receives Medicaid or KTAP benefits; or if the student is in foster care, the additional funds will automatically be added to your card. All other students may apply after June 1 by completing an online form at https://benefind.ky.gov. You may call 738-8002 with any questions.

Due to flooding conditions and continued widespread illness, Elliott County Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14. Deep cleaning/sanitation will be completed on those two days. Events scheduled for after school today, February 12 will not be affected. The middle school OVC championship game scheduled for February 13 will be played on Saturday, February 15. Senior Night will be rescheduled for next week.
